Types

There are many different types of blood diseases and leukemia. Acute leukemia progresses quickly, and chronic is gradual. The four main types of leukemia are:

Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)
ALL is the most treatable form of leukemia and more common in children. More than half of people with ALL are cured. Treatment of ALL is aggressive.

Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML)
AML is the second most common form of leukemia found in children. It also affects teens and adults over 50. Treatment of AML is aggressive.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
CLL affects a quarter of all leukemia patients, 90% of the time in patients over 50. It progresses slowly over a period of years.

Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML)
CML is rare and gradually becomes more aggressive over time, usually after six years. It affects a small percentage of children and adults over 50.
