Register for Jacqueline

You could be the match to save her life

On Christmas Eve 2006, Jacqueline Rose (Jackie) then only three years old was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Jackie’s amazing spirit and courage persevered and she completed therapy on August 5, 2007; she was cancer free. Sadly, on February 8, 2008 it was confirmed that Jacqueline’s leukemia had returned and this time it was also in her central nervous system. The only way to treat relapse of AML is chemotherapy followed by a marrow transplant. Please register to become a donor. You could be the missing link to save her life.

On Christmas Eve, 2006 instead of waiting for Santa’s arrival, my daughter, Jacqueline Rose (Jackie) then only three years old was brought into the ER. She had low grade temperatures and mysterious bruises on her legs and blood blisters in her mouth. I learned that night that my daughter had leukemia. Two days later, on December 26, 2006 Jackie’s leukemia was identified as acute myleloid leukemia (AML). AML only has a 53% chance of a five year survival in children under the age of 15. Jackie suffered through 5 very high doses of chemotherapy and many complications which at one point landed her on a ventilator in ICU. However, Jackie’s amazing spirit and courage persevered and she completed therapy on August 5, 2007; she was cancer free.

Sadly, on February 8, 2008 it was confirmed that Jacqueline’s leukemia had returned and this time it was also in her central nervous system. The only way to treat relapse of AML is chemotherapy followed by a marrow transplant. Jacqueline is half Caucasian and half south Asian, generally bone marrow matches are found from individuals with the same ethnic background. Since there is an extreme shortage of Asians and minorities on the bone marrow registry it is not likely that Jackie will have an available match. It is for this reason her family and friends are reaching out to the public asking people to please come down and be tested, go to a local drive or register online for if you are not a match for Jackie you could be a match to someone else. The test to join the bone marrow registry only consists of a simple cheek swab and filling out paperwork. If the event a match is found further testing would be done at that time. “You could be the missing link to save someone’s life” I pray that you are the missing link to save my daughter’s.
