In 2007, Joshua Conley was saved by a perfect stranger. At the time 11-year-old Joshua was battling a deadly form of lymphoma and needed a bone marrow transplant. Aaron, an 18-year-old man living on the other side of the country, decided to register as a bone marrow donor. Just a few months later, Aaron was found to be a perfect match and he donated his marrow to save Joshua’s life.
Joshua and Aaron met for the first time at the DKMS Linked Against Leukemia Gala on May 7, 2009. Since then, Joshua, now 14, and Aaron, now 22, have become great friends. Aaron traveled from Nevada to the Conley’s hometown of Standish, Maine to help Joshua and his family register new potential lifesavers at a DKMS donor drive on August 14, 2010. After the drive, the pair sat down to talk about their experiences and why it is so important to register as a bone marrow donor.
Register as a bone marrow donor today and you may be the one to save a life!
