DR Typing

Out of the 1.6 million DKMS donors, more than 620K are AB-DR typed and over 209K are high-resolution typed.

To speed up searches, nearly half of our donors go through DR typing at the DNA level.

When a new donor joins DKMS, blood is tested only for the first four of a total of six HLA tissue characteristics. DR typing decodes the last two relevant characteristics. We also do prospective C and HR typing.

The selection of donors to be typed is based on defined criteria, including HLA tissue pattern, age and sex.

One out of two donors found for a patient comes from DR typing, and DKMS represents 16% of the National Marrow Donor Program's (NMDP) DR typed donors.

Timely and Efficient

"Fred Hutchinson/Seattle Cancer Care Alliance has enjoyed a longstanding and productive working relationship with DKMS. In the setting of an ever expanding focus by the US registry, it has proven beneficial in countless situations to work with DKMS for timely and efficient response not only to HR and CT requests but to donor workups as well."
