Nutrition & Fitness

Because chemotherapy and radiation therapy weaken the immune system, be sure to keep up your fitness routine and commit to a healthy diet.

Maintaining a low-fat diet is important during treatment. Fruits, vegetables, soy and fiber are ideal because they contain disease-fighting chemicals. Most treatment centers have a dietician and support groups available so you can seek out more information.

Consider relaxation exercises such as visualization and meditation to reduce stress. Fitness programs like yoga, walking and stretching may also be beneficial. Keep in mind that it is important to start gradually and be consistent.

Always consult your doctor before beginning a new nutrition or fitness routine.
