Attend a Marrow Donor Drive

Bone marrow donor drives are one of the most important ways we build our network of donors. It provides you the opportunity to learn more about us and often times meet the family of patients. You can be part of our life-saving effort by attending a donor drive and doing a simple cheek swab to register. It's that simple.

Just ten minutes of your time can help give a blood cancer patient a second chance at life.

Help Courtney to help others!

Saturday July 11, 2009, Gadsden, AL

Courtney was just nine years old when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) Oct 2nd 2003. She needed two and a half years of chemo to finally get into remission. Courtney is now a vibrant, energetic 15 year old and doing great! Fortunately, Courtney didn't need a bone marrow transplant, but there are many others for whom this transplant is the only hope of survival. Courtney’s family has made it their mission in life to help as many people battling this disease as they can.

Registering to become a bone marrow donor is more than a cheek swab; it is a commitment to help save a life. You must be in good general health and between the ages of 18 and 55. When you register with DKMS, you will be also listed on the national Be The Match registry and can be found as a donor match for any patient in need of a bone marrow transplant. Learn more about your commitment and check if you meet the medical eligibility requirements.

25-year-old leukemia patient, Colin Hines, needs a bone marrow transplant to live. Help us save him!

Sunday, July 12, 2009 - Wilmington, DE

Colin Hines is 25 years old and was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in March of 2009. After undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy, Colin’s best chance for survival is a bone marrow transplant.

"At 25 years old, I feel like I am in the prime of my life, and being diagnosed with leukemia put a devastating halt on all of my plans. All the love and support I have received have been an unexpected gift that have lifted my spirits and my faith in humanity. For those of us who are facing a potentially fatal diagnosis, we realize how precious life truly is.
“My family, friends, and I are asking you to come out and give the most precious gift of all, for me and others in need of a transplant. I have lived my life by the motto ‘Make Life Count;’ now I ask you to do the same by granting the gift of life to another,” Colin Hines said.
