Cindy Crawford was honored with the Mechtild Harf Prize at the 2nd Annual Linked Against Leukemia Gala, held on May 7, 2008 at Capitale in New York City.
The Mechtild Harf Award was established in honor of Mechtild Harf, who lost her battle against acute leukemia in 1991. In desperate need of a marrow transplant, her husband, Peter Harf, and her physician, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Ehninger established DKMS, now the world’s largest marrow donor center, to recruit life-saving marrow donors.
This award recognizes an individual who has provided inspirational leadership in the fight against leukemia and other blood cancers. The recipient has shown outstanding support of DKMS’s mission to raise awareness of the need for individuals to register as marrow donors.
